Man City gets a £5.17 extra when players are discharged for international duty
Manchester City, the Premier League team, was given the greatest amount of any UEFA club—roughly 5.17 million euros ($5.94 million)—as part of the European Football Association’s Club Benefits Program to encourage players to play for their country.
A record 233 million euros were distributed to 901 clubs from all 55 member associations to release players to national team competitions, such as the UEFA Nations League in 2020–21 and 2022–23, the 2022–24 European Championship qualifying rounds, and Euro 2024.
Serie A team Inter Milan won 4.65 million euros, while Real Madrid of Spain received 4.79 million.
Clubs received an equal share for each player released for each UEFA Nations League and Euros qualification match, in addition to a fixed amount per player each day during the final tournament.
All divisions of football clubs benefited; the tenth-tier Yorkshire Amateur of England team received 7,300 euros.
UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin stated, “It is wonderful to see clubs of all sizes and levels, across the entire football pyramid, receiving financial rewards for their crucial role in developing players who contribute to the success of our national team competitions – including the highly successful UEFA EURO 2024 final tournament.”
“Everyone benefits when football flourishes, and this benefits program is another example of how our competitions are a shared success.”
The player release total for this cycle was 100 million euros, while the previous cycle’s was 70 million euros.
196 clubs from 29 UEFA member organizations received an increase in funding for player release for the European Championship, from 130 million euros to 140 million euros.
