Asaoh Gyan calls the African Schools Championship a revolution in young football
The African Schools Championship is a “great opportunity” for the continent’s future football players, according to Ghanaian football legend Asamoah Gyan, who has thrown his whole support behind it. The competition is seen by the former Black Stars captain, who is well-known for his enthusiasm for nurturing young talent, as an essential step in identifying future stars and bolstering national teams around Africa.
“This generation has a fantastic opportunity to take advantage of it. It will be advantageous to the other national teams,” Gyan stated. Personally, I’m in favor of grassroots football. As ambassadors, we will therefore do all effort to ensure that we create the stars.
By providing young boys and girls throughout the continent with an organized stage on which to display their skills, the African Schools Championship, supported by CAF and its partners, seeks to foster football development at the grassroots level. Through athletics, it also fosters community, discipline, and education.
Gyan, a continental legend and Ghana’s all-time top scorer, has long been an outspoken supporter of youth football and the development of potential. His selection as the competition’s ambassador demonstrates his commitment to laying a strong basis for African football’s future.
Given that many of Africa’s top football exports came from modest backgrounds, Gyan thinks events like this championship might serve as the catalyst for the next generation of superstars.
He went on to say, “It’s about giving young people a purpose, hope, and an opportunity to dream, not just about football.”
