The Florida State University Student Union was shot at, leaving one person dead and six injured

Six individuals are in critical condition and one person was killed in a shooting at the student union at Florida State University.

According to media sources, a shooting at Florida State University on Thursday left at least one person dead and six others injured, and a suspect was arrested.

At least one person had died, according to ABC News, which cited several unnamed law enforcement authorities.

At lunchtime, there were reports of gunshots at the Student Union building on the FSU campus in Tallahassee, the state capital. As police arrived, instructors and students were told to stay indoors. The main campus is home to more than 42,000 students.

Six victims were admitted to Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare, a local hospital, with one in critical condition and the others in serious condition, according to a statement.

Two law enforcement sources with knowledge of the incident told CNN that officers arrested one suspect soon after the shooting. Three firearms were discovered, according to the station: a shotgun at the student union, one on the suspect, and one in a nearby automobile.

It was not immediately possible to contact law enforcement agencies for comment or confirmation of the reports.

In an X post, FBI Director Kash Patel stated that he had received information about the Florida State incident and that a team from the FBI field office in Jacksonville was helping. “If necessary, we will offer local law enforcement our full support,” he continued.

The shooting was the most recent spate of fatal gun violence to strike a school campus in the United States in recent memory. While hundreds of students were preparing for tests in 2014, a Florida State University graduate opened fire early at the main library, hurting two students and an employee.
