Pastor Ng’ang’a addressed critics after a church video went viral
Netizens have expressed differing opinions about the video, dividing the internet.
The 71-year-old feels that, in comparison to the younger generation, he is an elderly and wise guy who has the authority to decide what to do because he is wealthy and leads a ministry.
The video shows Ng’ang’a at his regular preaching location, where he fervently explains the purpose of his ministry:
“This is not a church, as I have stated countless times. The ones out there are churches. “In Swahili, he stated, ‘This is a military ministry that deals with problems far deeper than what ordinary pastors can manage.
“Don’t bother if you’re coming here thinking it’s just another church,” he continued. Simply go worship in Ruiru or Kawangware. Don’t squander your time and disregard everything I’ve taught you by coming here.”
Pastor Ng’ang’a, who is 71 years old, claims to be both wise and experienced, and he maintains that his money and position of leadership provide him the freedom to direct his ministry anyway he sees proper.
His comments follow a flurry of internet discussion triggered by the now-viral video that showed a dramatic moment during a church service.
Ng’ang’a is shown in the film preaching against drama, but a dramatic episode breaks out just seconds later.
The pastor saw a man dozing off in the front row while he was addressing his congregation. Ng’ang’a, obviously annoyed, went up to the man and repeatedly slapped him while making fun of him before hurling him from the chapel.
When Ng’ang’a turned to face the woman sitting next to the man, the scene became much more heated.
“Why did you let this man fall asleep while you were just sitting there?” said the man. The woman was also told to leave the service, despite her claims that she hadn’t noticed.
Netizens have expressed differing opinions about the incident, dividing the internet.
“That was very bad and super disrespectful,” said one who denounced Ng’ang’a’s behavior as rude. Perhaps the man made the effort to get to church even though he had worked through the night. You don’t behave that way toward others.”
“I am grateful that man is not God. This is completely incorrect.
“If you know the story of Eutychus in the Bible, you wouldn’t be so quick to judge.”
Others, however, defended the pastor:
“The only real pastor in the world—no pretending.”
“This is the epitome of comedy. In any case, I would leave and never come back if it were me.
Whatever the perspectives, one thing is certain: Pastor Ng’ang’a continues to be a divisive character in Kenya’s religious landscape, not hesitant to voice his truth, no matter how outlandish.
