PSG player Hakimi considers playing for Morocco in the World Cup or the AFCON

Achraf Hakimi, the vice captain of Morocco, has set his sights on leading the Atlas Lions to victory in the FIFA World Cup or the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

During the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Morocco became the first African side to get to the semi-finals, and the Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) right-back was one of their important players.

Having won every game in their qualification group (Group E), Morocco is almost certain to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, and 26-year-old Hakimi has made his goals clear.

On Hespress English, the former Real Madrid and Inter Milan player stated, “I think it would be great to win everything with Paris.”

“I would prefer to win something with Morocco, like the World Cup, because the World Cup doesn’t happen every year, so the feeling is different with Morocco.”

“Winning something with Morocco, whether it’s the Africa Cup of Nations or the World Cup, is what I dream of,” Hakimi said, underscoring his ultimate goal before retiring: to lift a major trophy with the Moroccan national side.

Morocco lifted the trophy in 1976, their only other AFCON championship. Morocco will host the 2025 AFCON edition from December 2025 to January 18, 2026.
