Canadian Prime Minister Carney accuses Trump of attempting to “break Canada” and calls for a snap election

US President Donald Trump is allegedly trying to destabilize Canada, according to Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, who has called for a hasty election.

In order to address the mounting threat posed by US President Donald Trump, who he accused of attempting to “break Canada so America can own us,” newly appointed Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has called for a snap election on April 28.

Carney’s comments highlighted the dramatic deterioration in US-Canada relations, which were previously characterized by strong diplomatic and commercial ties. Since Trump proposed annexing Canada as the 51st US state and placed taxes on Canadian goods, tensions have increased.

Carney is trying to take advantage of his Liberal Party’s recent jump in the polls after former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau resigned and Trump threatened Canada, even though the next election was initially set for October 20.

After taking the oath of office as prime minister on March 14, Carney first adopted an accommodative stance, saying he respected and could cooperate with Trump. On Sunday, though, he took a more combative posture.

After obtaining permission from the Governor General, who represents King Charles III in Canada, to dissolve Parliament, Carney told reporters, “President Trump’s unwarranted trade actions and his threats to our sovereignty have put us in the most serious crisis of our lifetimes.”

“Building a robust economy and a more secure Canada must be our response. According to President Trump, Canada isn’t a legitimate nation. His goal is to destroy us so that America may possess us. We won’t allow that to occur.

Regarding Carney’s remarks, the White House has not yet responded.

Trump delayed a 25% tax on a number of Canadian imports for 30 days on March 6. He has since threatened to slap extra charges on dairy and timber, which are scheduled to go into force on April 2, and he has placed tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum.
