Gordon returns to Newcastle with a hip injury after leaving the England group

The England national team stated on Sunday that winger Anthony Gordon had returned to his club, Newcastle United, after withdrawing from the squad owing to an injury he acquired during their World Cup qualifying opener against Albania.

In the closing minutes of England’s 2-0 victory over Albania at Wembley Stadium on Friday, Gordon entered the game as a substitute but was substituted out due to what appeared to be a hip injury.

“Anthony Gordon has withdrawn from Three Lions camp having sustained an injury during Friday night’s 2-0 win over Albania,” England announced in a statement.

“The forward has returned to Newcastle United for further assessment.”
