Trump Says US Steel and Aluminum Tariffs Will Not Be Exempted

President Donald Trump has reaffirmed his trade policy position by insisting that US steel and aluminum tariffs would not be waived.

US President Donald Trump has confirmed that sectoral and reciprocal tariffs will be implemented on April 2 and has ruled out any exemptions for steel and aluminum tariffs.

Trump increased import duties on steel and aluminum to a flat 25% with no exceptions last month in an effort to support US industry while escalating tensions over international trade.

Trump reaffirmed to reporters on Air Force One that car levies would be accompanied by reciprocal tariffs on US trading partners.

When asked if he would enact sectoral and reciprocal tariffs next month, he responded, “In some cases, both.” We charge them, and they charge us. In addition to that, we will impose extra [tariffs] on automobiles, steel, and aluminum.

Trump has already said that beginning in early April, these actions will be taken against both allies and enemies.
