The Seahawks offer Cooper Kupp a three-year, $45 million contract

Cooper Kupp, a former wide receiver with the Los Angeles Rams, agreed to a three-year, $45 million contract with the Seattle Seahawks, according to many publications on Friday.

Kupp, who was raised in Yakima, Washington, some 140 miles away, and later became an FCS star at Eastern Washington, considers joining the Seahawks to be a homecoming.

Using a photo of himself wearing a Seattle uniform and the caption, “Washington back across my chest,” Kupp verified the news on social media. “Let’s go!”

After eight seasons with the Rams, Kupp was officially released earlier this week. Early in February, he disclosed that the Rams had told him he would not be returning to the team and that they would attempt to trade him.

Kupp, who turns 32 in June, was selected by Los Angeles in the third round of the 2017 NBA Draft and rose to prominence almost away. In 2019, he caught 94 catches, the first of three consecutive seasons with 90 or more yards, and recorded the first of his two 1,000-yard seasons.

With 145 receptions for 1,947 yards and 16 touchdowns in 2021, Kupp earned the NFL receiving triple crown, making it a memorable season. In addition to being selected to the first team All-Pro and the Pro Bowl, he was voted the NFL Offensive Player of the Year and caught two touchdown passes in the Super Bowl victory over the Cincinnati Bengals.

With eight receptions for 92 yards and two touchdowns, including the game-winning 1-yard score with 1:25 remaining in the Rams’ 23–20 victory, he was voted MVP of Super Bowl LVI. He finished the postseason with 33 receptions for 478 yards and six touchdowns in four games.

But over the last three seasons, Kupp has struggled with injuries and has only once reached 800 yards. He only played in 12 games this season because to an ankle injury sustained in Week 2, but he caught 67 passes for 710 yards and six touchdowns.

He has caught 634 passes for 7,776 yards and 57 touchdowns in 104 games throughout the regular season, including 89 starts.

Due to his tremendous success at Eastern Washington, Kupp still holds the FCS career records of 4,28 catches, 6,464 yards, and 73 touchdowns from 2013–16.
