King Charles Celebrates Commonwealth Day by Sharing His Own Playlist

King Charles celebrated Commonwealth Day by releasing a 17-song playlist on Apple Music that included songs by Kylie Minogue, Bob Marley, and others.

Australian musical sensation Kylie Minogue, British vocalist Raye, and Jamaican reggae legend Bob Marley are among the Commonwealth musicians featured in King Charles’ personal collection of songs that have made him happy over the years.

The King’s Music Room, a 17-track playlist, will be played on Apple Music’s international radio stations on Monday and Tuesday in honor of Commonwealth Day.

King Charles, 76, states in a preview for the show, which was shot inside Buckingham Palace and will air on Friday, “Music has meant a great deal to me throughout my life.”

“It has that amazing power to transport us to faraway places, to soothe us in times of sorrow, and to bring back joyful memories from the deepest corners of our memory,” he continues.

Apple Music said that in addition to sharing his eclectic playlist, which features songs from the 1930s crooners, Afrobeats, and modern performers, Charles will also provide personal stories about his interactions with some of the artists and the meaning behind some of the songs.

The playlist was conceived as a fresh and innovative way to commemorate Commonwealth Day, an annual occasion honoring the 56 countries that comprise the voluntary organization that he currently leads, King Charles explained.

“This is what I wanted to share with you in particular—songs that have made me happy,” he states throughout the program. I appreciate you listening. I hope you experience every benefit imaginable.

The King’s Music Room will provide listeners an insight into the king’s own musical journey when it premieres on Apple Music 1 on March 10 at 6 a.m. GMT.
