The NBA’s first player to reach 50,000 career points is LeBron James

LeBron James, a basketball legend, became the first player in NBA history to reach 50,000 points in his career.

During the Los Angeles Lakers’ decisive victory over the New Orleans Pelicans on Tuesday, LeBron James made history by becoming the first NBA player to achieve 50,000 points in his career. He did this by making a three-pointer in the first quarter.

James wasted little time in making his name in the record books, coming into the game just one point short of the historic milestone. The 40-year-old star recognized the moment’s importance as she reflected on the accomplishment.

James remarked, “It’s a hell of a lot of points,” after the game. “I’m extremely fortunate to have been able to accumulate that many points throughout my career in the world’s top league with the greatest players.” It is therefore quite unique.

James has already surpassed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s record in February 2023 to become the NBA’s all-time top regular-season scorer. He also beat Michael Jordan in 2017 to claim the all-time playoff scoring record. He is in his 22nd season and still defies expectations.

After winning the NBA Western Conference Player of the Month title for February, James now has a record 41 monthly honors, including three with the Lakers. In addition, he became the oldest recipient of the award, outliving Karl Malone, who received it in 2000 at the age of 37.

Since acquiring Anthony Davis from the Dallas Mavericks last month in a blockbuster trade for Luka Doncic, the Lakers have been playing at their best. On Tuesday, James and Doncic combined for 64 points and 21 assists in a 136-115 victory, showcasing their developing synergy.

James remarked of Doncic, “He is becoming more and more at ease with everything—the fans, LA, not just the team, not just the sets.” He will see daily improvements in his health because his calf is improving. This is beneficial to our staff.

After missing almost six weeks due to a left calf strain sustained on Christmas Day, Doncic seems to be getting back to his previous level of play.

With Tuesday’s triumph, the Lakers moved up to second place in the Western Conference rankings and extended their winning streak to seven games. James, a defensive stalwart and offensive powerhouse, said he was confident in the team’s path.

“We just want to keep working well together, both offensively and defensively, and hold each other accountable,” he stated.
