Cisse will become the new head coach of Libya

Aliou Cissé, the renowned Senegalese football player, has officially agreed to coach Libya’s Mediterranean Knights.

The parties agreed to a two-year contract with the possibility of an extension on Friday after days of negotiations.

As part of his mandate, the former Senegal coach is responsible for leading Libya to qualify for both the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Furthermore, it is anticipated that he would lead the team to at least the 2027 AFCON semifinals.

Cissé will make his debut in the World Cup qualifying matches against Cameroon and Angola next month.

Libya is now only one point behind group leaders Cameroon in second place in Group D with seven points after four games.

Through this agreement, Cissé will rise to the position of second-highest paid African football coach.
