Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce will return to action in 2025, according to Pat McAfee

Travis Kelce, the great tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs, will be back on the field in the upcoming season.

In a text message to Pat McAfee, Kelce made his intentions clear, and McAfee quickly published it on his show on Thursday.

“I’m coming back for sure,” Kelce wrote, according to McAfee…. “I intend to return to the mountaintop and strive to get into the greatest shape I’ve been in this summer. The way I prepared the guys for war and played in that last game left me with a really nasty taste in my mouth. That’s not how I can go out!”

The statement aligns with the remarks made by Brett Veach, general manager of the Chiefs, on Tuesday.

The 35-year-old Kelce stated earlier this month that he was considering his options after the Chiefs’ 40-22 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX. In the end, Kelce had four catches for 39 yards.

“At the moment, I’m just kicking things down the road, but I know that everyone wants to know if I’m playing next year. I’m going to kick whatever I can. Kelce stated on his “New Heights” podcast, “I’m not making any outlandish choices.”

In 2025, Kelce, a four-time first-team All-Pro and ten-time Pro Bowl selection across 12 NFL seasons, would be subject to a $19.8 million cap hit.

The 2024 regular season saw Kelce record his lowest yardage total since 2014 with 97 receptions for 823 yards. From 2016–22, he recorded seven straight years with 1,000 yards.
