Echeverri, a teenage midfielder from Argentina, joins Manchester City

The Premier League team announced on Thursday that Claudio Echeverri, an Argentine midfielder, has joined Manchester City and will be available for selection for the remainder of the season.

Echeverri arrived at City after leading his nation at the Under-20 South American Championship. He signed with River Plate in January of last year, but was on loan at the Argentine team until last month.

Argentina advanced to the final, where they were defeated by Paraguay earlier this month, thanks to the 19-year-old’s six goals in nine games. Echeverri has 48 appearances and four goals for River Plate since signing a deal that runs through June 2028.

In a club statement, Echeverri remarked, “I can’t express how thrilled I am to be in Manchester and to be able to call myself a Manchester City player at last.”

The fourth-place Premier League team, Manchester City, will play in the FA Cup this Saturday when they host Plymouth Argyle in the fifth round.
