Liverpool widens the margin by 13 points while Arsenal is held by Forest

Liverpool defeated Newcastle United 2-0 on Wednesday to take a 13-point lead in the Premier League, while Arsenal, their nearest rival, fought out a 0-0 draw at Nottingham Forest.

Arne Slot’s team now seems unstoppable, even although the outcomes of the previous weekend seemed to have awarded Liverpool the title.

Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister scored goals in each half to help Liverpool defeat Newcastle, who dropped one spot to sixth place in the standings.

Luis Diaz cut the ball back for the Hungarian, whose shot beat Nick Pope, and Szoboszlai scored in the eleventh minute.

In the 63rd minute, Mac Allister was picked out by Mohamed Salah and doubled the lead for the home team.

Only a catastrophic fall would prevent Liverpool from winning their 20th English league title after they emerged victorious from a tough run of games that included a draw away at Aston Villa, victories against Manchester City, and now Newcastle.

“I think the desire to win trophies is driving us on,” Mac Allister stated. “We know that this season we maybe have the opportunity to win some, so we are really happy to work really hard and hopefully we can keep on going.”

The London club was completely destroyed by Arsenal’s loss to West Ham over the weekend, and although manager Mikel Arteta promised not to lose up, a 0-0 draw against Forest was yet another blow to their hopes of winning the championship.

Despite having a game in hand, Liverpool leads Arsenal by 54 points after 28 games, with 67 points overall. Forest has 48 points.

Erling Haaland’s lone goal at Tottenham Hotspur helped Manchester City return to the top four.

Haaland became just the second player to score at least 20 goals in his first three Premier League seasons when he scored from close range in the 12th minute.

Ruud van Nistelrooy, who played for Manchester United from 2001–02 to 2003–04, was the other player to accomplish that accomplishment.

Despite being reduced to ten men, Manchester United played a thrilling match against struggling Ipswich Town, ultimately winning 3-2 thanks to a goal from Harry Maguire.

Jaden Philogene gave Ipswich an early lead after a terrible defensive blunder.

However, United altered the tide of the game as Matthijs de Ligt’s close-range shot and an own goal by Ipswich captain Sam Morsy put the home team ahead after 26 minutes.

Two minutes before halftime, Patrick Dorgu was sent off for a late challenge on Omari Hutchinson, and Philogene added another goal to tie the game for third-from-bottom Ipswich.

However, Maguire came up to put Ipswich in even more danger of relegation, and United’s ten men won the points.

“Today, I’m not frustrated,” United manager Ruben Amorim said to reporters. “We controlled the game and since the first minute I felt the players were trying to play and we managed to score two goals.”

Ipswich is five points outside the safety zone with their sixth loss in seven games, while United is in 14th place with 33 points.

Ipswich coach Kieran McKenna stated, “There’s no doubt about it, this was a huge missed opportunity.”

As the Merseyside team overcame a deficit to draw 1-1 at Brentford, Jake O’Brien scored his first goal for Everton, extending their winning streak in the Premier League to seven games under new boss David Moyes.

The hosts had taken the lead thanks to Yoane Wissa.
