Three American women were discovered dead at a beach resort in Belize

The tragic deaths of three American ladies who were discovered unconscious in their oceanfront resort over the weekend are being looked into by Belizean authorities.

According to Belize police, the victims were 26-year-old Wafae El-Arar, 24-year-old Imane Mallah, and 23-year-old Kaoutar Naqqad who were lodging at the Royal Kahal Beach Resort on Ambergris Caye.
Although the cause is still unknown, officials believe drug overdoses may have contributed.

When surveillance footage showed the women going into their rooms on Thursday night and not coming out, resort employees were alarmed.

After many attempts to reach them were unsuccessful, hotel staff checked the room on Saturday morning using a master key and found the women not moving.

First responders observed foam surrounding their mouths, which could indicate an overdose. Gummies and alcohol were also discovered at the site, according to authorities.

Police Commissioner Chester Williams told Belize’s News 5 Live, “We’re not saying at this time that the gummies caused death, but we’re looking at every possibility.” Investigators are also trying to figure out whether the gummies were imported into the country or bought locally.

Officers discovered munchies, vapes, liquids, and electrical gadgets in the room, but there were no obvious injuries or indications of forced entry.

The women’s hometown of Revere, Massachusetts, posted a social media statement lamenting their passing.

The statement said, “The City of Revere sends our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the three local women who were tragically and unexpectedly killed in Belize.”

The inquiry is ongoing, according to the police.
