The press secretary for Kagame criticizes the world hypocrisy in handling the violence in the Democratic Republic of the Congo
Stephanie Nyombayire, the press secretary of Village Urugwiro, has criticized the hypocrisy of certain international powers in their response to the ongoing crisis in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Nyombayire claimed via her official X account that this hypocrisy has only sabotaged efforts to find real answers to the decades-long suffering that residents in this region of the Democratic Republic of the Congo have endured.
She refuted allegations that Rwanda may oppose a political solution in her statement, pointing out that Congolese President Félix Tshisekedi has “openly and repeatedly refused to do so” and that President Paul Kagame’s administration has “been calling for dialogue for years.”
She went on to say, “And we will not join you in pretending otherwise.”
Nyombayire maintained that geopolitical interests that have long ignored the lives of Rwandans were the true cause of the most recent wave of international pressure against the country, which included some partner nations withdrawing aid.
She stated that the conclusion made thirty years ago that Rwandan lives are worthless in the face of geopolitical objectives is still relevant today.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the UK government hardly alluded to Rwanda’s security concerns regarding the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, neither outlining them explicitly nor providing a remedy.
She claimed that Kinshasa has been “recruiting genocidaires and European mercenaries” while getting international support, accusing the Congolese government of profiting from Western collaboration.
Therefore, the DRC’s leadership is taking advantage of the benefits of having similar interests to their masters: talking a lot, hiring genocidaires and European mercenaries to fight your conflicts, then lounging and letting the international community cover up the true problem.
Nyombayire added that foreign nations making money off of the violence are not particularly interested in stability, claiming that assistance initiatives and peacekeeping operations are a part of a larger framework that enables them to retain power.
“Every resolution and statement calls for an immediate return to business as usual: a country that must continue to be a lawless playground where its leaders make money to buy castles in Brussels, the international community prospers from peacekeeping and poverty alleviation initiatives, and their companies safeguard their profits.”
She said that Western nations would never put up with the level of security threats that Rwanda has faced, dismissing their support for the DR Congo.
“Every nation supporting the DRC is aware that they could never put up with even a small portion of the security threats that Rwanda has been dealing with for the past 30 years,” she said.
In her closing remarks, Nyombayire charged that international powers were purposefully misrepresenting the conflict’s actual state.
Because the truth hurts business, the gaslighting is done on purpose. As it turns out, neither nation’s citizens are truly important in this equation, and their ultimate objective is NOT to bring about peace.
Rwanda has continuously insisted that national security is its top priority, pointing to the existence of armed organizations, such as the FDLR, close to its border.
In the meantime, Rwanda has been accused of aiding the M23 rebels in eastern DR Congo, and the EU and the UK have proposed various punitive actions against the country.
Kigali maintains that African-led mediation, not what it perceives as selective foreign power interventions, is the only way to achieve a permanent solution in the face of mounting world scrutiny.
The Congolese army and its supporters, notably the Rwandan genocidal group FDLR, have gathered a store of heavy weapons at the Rwandan border with the explicit and demonstrable goal of destroying Rwanda. No nation has come forward to protest this.
No one has denounced Congolese President Felix Tshisekedi’s repeated, outspoken threats to attack Rwanda and overthrow the Kigali government.
Similar to this, the Congolese and their allies purposefully shelled Rwanda during the Goma conflict, killing over a dozen civilians and wounding tens of thousands more, but this action has not been denounced.
