Strange World: Japanese Gorillas Taught to Use Tablets to Order Food

A gorilla family has been trained to use a tablet to place meal orders.

Momotaro, 24, his spouse Genki, 38, and their two boys, Kintaro, 6, and Gentaro, 13, were members of the primate clan. They were required to memorize a series of digits from 1 to 9 and enter them into a touchscreen device in order to receive a reward.

Video captures a gorilla at Japan’s Kyoto City Zoo memorizing the right numerical sequence and rewarding itself.

But when the other two approach the touchscreen, they can’t recall the order.

For the past five years, the gorilla family has been practicing the numbering system, but Momotaro, the father gorilla, has the most difficulty because he can only solve problems that use the numbers one through six and makes a lot of mistakes.

Social media users have strong emotions to the ordering.

“These King Kongs are becoming too intelligent!” one person wrote.

“I hope Momotaro can get better at it,” said another.
