A female teacher in South Korea fatally stabbed an eight-year-old student
A South Korean woman teacher has admitted to fatally stabbing an eight-year-old child at a Daejeon school.
The horrific event of an elementary school teacher fatally stabbing an eight-year-old pupil at an elementary school in Daejeon has rocked South Korea. According to authorities, the 40-year-old female instructor admitted to the crime.
The pupil was discovered with stab wounds on the second level of the school building on Monday at around 18:00 local time (09:00 WAT). Despite being taken to the hospital immediately, she passed away from her wounds. Police suspect the instructor who was found next to her had self-inflicted wounds.
A comprehensive inquiry into the issue has been requested by Choi Sang-mok, the acting president of South Korea, who has urged authorities to “implement necessary measures to ensure such incidents never happen again.”
A teddy doll and flowers have been placed at the gate of the school by mourners.
The head of Daejeon Western Police Station, Yook Jong-myung, stated during a police officer briefing on Tuesday that the teacher was undergoing medical treatment for a stitched wound on her neck.
The instructor had previously requested a six-month leave of absence on December 9th, claiming depression, according to the Daejeon education office. But after only 20 days, she went back to school after a doctor’s evaluation determined she was fit for job.
She apparently had suicide thoughts while on leave. She displayed violent behavior in the days before to the incident, including headlocking another instructor. Education authorities visited the school on Monday morning, the day of the deadly stabbing, as part of their investigation into this.
The education office suggested that the instructor be placed on leave and kept physically apart from the person she had attacked after the argument with her coworker. For strict monitoring, she was forced to sit next to the vice principal’s desk.
According to investigators, she had no previous interaction with the eight-year-old victim and was not teaching any lessons at the time of the crime.
The instructor had bought a gun the day before the attack with the intention of killing herself and a kid, according to her police statement.
She allegedly targeted the final pupil to depart and didn’t “care which child it was.” Prior to performing the lethal stabbing, she enticed the girl into the media room.
After a bus driver notified the school that the youngster had not shown up for pickup, the student was reported missing on Monday night.
Even though South Korea has strong gun control regulations and is usually seen as a secure country, a number of high-profile stabbing occurrences in recent years have sparked worries about violent crimes.
“It pains me to see such incidents because a school should be our safest space,” said acting president Choi, who expressed his sadness over the attack. I send the victim’s family my sincere sympathies for their immense shock and suffering.
As investigators attempt to ascertain the whole facts surrounding the incident, the investigation is still underway.
