Manchester United has already put Ruben Amorim under pressure
Growing skepticism over Ruben Amorim’s tactics is making his early days at Manchester United challenging. Nine victories, eight defeats, and two ties in 19 games are his team’s record after almost three months in charge, and they have let up as many goals as they have scored (34).
Although they started by moving the squad up from 13th place in the Premier League, they are still in the same spot and are getting farther away from qualifying for Europe. To make matters worse, the Portuguese manager has now lost five of his seven league games at home, shattering any hopes that were raised by his high-profile hiring.
Their Europa League performances have been unimpressive, barely defeating weaker opponents, despite some encouraging victories, like as their 3-2 triumph over Manchester City and their arduous FA Cup penalty shootout victory against Arsenal.
Legendary club member Gary Neville has even implied that Amorim is having more difficulties than his predecessor, Erik ten Hag, citing the team’s inability to adapt to the new style.
Amorim’s three-man defense hasn’t worked out yet, and setbacks like Lisandro Martínez’s season-ending injury have made matters worse. Only teenage full-back Patrick Dorgu joined the team during the January transfer window, as Marcus Rashford and Antony left on loan.
Amorim and Garnacho, who has been one of the few bright lights in recent months, are at odds, and tensions in the dressing room are getting worse. The forthcoming FA Cup match against Leicester might be a pivotal moment for the Portuguese boss as pressure builds and confidence wanes. His greatest opportunity to regain confidence in his idea and quell the mounting worries may be a deep cup run.
