Grammy Awards Recap: Beyoncé and Kendrick Lamar Take Home Huge Prizes

At the Grammy Awards on Sunday, February 25, Kendrick Lamar emerged victorious, winning five awards.

The 38-year-old rapper won a ton of awards at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles for his Drake diss single “Not Like Us.” He took home Best Music Video, Best Rap Song, Best Rap Performance, and the coveted Record of the Year and Song of the Year awards.

At the ceremony this year, which was organized to commemorate Los Angeles and collect money for the victims of the recent disasters, Kendrick took a moment to give his hometown some props.

With three awards, including Album of the Year for “Cowboy Carter,” which she dedicated to Black country music pioneer Linda Martell, Beyonce also had a good evening.

Beyonce won Best Country Album for the album, while she and Miley Cyrus won Best Country Duo/Group Performance for their joint single, “II Most Wanted.”

At the ceremony, which Trevor Noah hosted, other noteworthy winners included Sabrina Carpenter, who won Best Pop Solo Performance for “Espresso,” Chappell Roan, who won Best New Artist, and Charli XCX, who won Best Dance/Electronic Album and Best Recording Package for “Brat,” as well as Best Dance Pop Recording for “Von Dutch.”

All of the Best New Artist nominees, including Sabrina Carpenter, Teddy Swims, Benson Boone, Doechii, Khruangbin, RAYE, Shaboozey, Teddy Swims, and eventual winner Chappell, as well as Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga, who performed a cover of “California Dreamin” in honor of Los Angeles, as well as The Weeknd, were among the musical acts of the evening.

The late Quincy Jones was honored by Janelle Monae, Stevie Wonder, Cynthia Erivo, Herbie Hancock, and Lainey Wilson, while Coldplay’s Chris Martin performed during the In Memoriam section.
