LaLiga’s leader hopes to revoke Dani Olmo’s registration

The Spanish national sports council’s decision to let Barcelona to register Spain forward Dani Olmo has been sharply criticized by La Liga president Javier Tebas, who has insisted that a procedure is in place to reverse the decision.

Tebas clarified in his remarks that La Liga is formally preventing Olmo’s registration due to financial issues and the league’s stringent rules.

We oppose his registration and are allocating the appropriate money to the appropriate groups. And it makes sense for us to request that he not be registered,” Tebas said.

The Barcelona management had been hopeful that Olmo would be acquired and added to the team, but things are still up in the air because La Liga is aggressively opposing the trade. Tebas also underlined that La Liga thinks it has a compelling argument to prevent the deal.

“Well, we obviously think that we have a chance that he won’t be registered if we think that he shouldn’t be,” he continued.

Due to La Liga’s Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations, Barcelona has been dealing with financial constraints; this most recent development may make their aspirations to bolster the team more difficult. Olmo’s career at the Catalan club is in jeopardy as the team is expected to defend its position, but La Liga’s leadership is taking a strong stance.
