Jimmy Butler will be suspended by the Heat for two more games

Jimmy Butler missed the Miami Heat’s flight to Milwaukee on Wednesday, earning him his second suspension of the month.

Butler was suspended, according to the club’s statement, “for (a) continued pattern of disregard of team rules, insubordinate conduct, and conduct detrimental to the team, including missing today’s team flight to Milwaukee.”

The Heat were 3-4 from January 4-15, and Butler had already completed a seven-game suspension for actions that were harmful to the team. The six-time All-Star said that his relationship with the team had deteriorated beyond redemption and had asked for a trade.

The organization was not happy with Butler’s performance after he returned after a five-game absence in December due to sickness, and he was suspended for seven games for behavior that had become problematic “over the course of the season and particularly the last several weeks.”

Although Butler stated at the time that he “probably” would never be happy playing for the Heat again, on January 17, he returned from suspension and helped the team win 1-2 with an average of 13.0 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 5.7 assists.

Butler has averaging 17.0 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 4.8 assists this season.

Butler will miss Miami’s game on Saturday at Brooklyn in addition to Thursday’s matchup with the Bucks.

Heat president Pat Riley stated the team would not transfer one of its best players when Butler’s initial wish to be dealt became public. Riley stated that the organization was open to considering trade proposals following the issuance of the first suspension.
