Trevor Noah will serve as the host of the 2025 Grammy Awards for the fifth consecutive year
Trevor Noah will serve as the host of the Grammy Awards for the fifth consecutive year next month.
On February 2, the 40-year-old comedian will once again preside over the ceremony at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. Despite the wildfires in Southern California, the event will proceed, but with a “reinvigorated sense of purpose” in light of the tragic event.
The bash was threatened by the ongoing deadly wildfires in Los Angeles, which have resulted in the destruction of thousands of homes, the displacement of numerous residents, and the loss of at least 27 lives. The fires began in the Pacific Palisades area on January 7, and were subsequently spread across thousands of acres by hurricane-force winds.
Harvey Mason Jr., CEO of the Recording Academy and MusiCares, and Tammy Hurt, Chair of the Board of Trustees, have stated that the show must continue, with an emphasis on fundraising and the support of those in the music industry who have been affected.
Shared by CNN Reporter Elizabeth Wagmeister on X, a statement read: “Dear Recording Academy Members, our hearts go out to everyone affected by the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles.
“We are deeply saddened by the recent loss of life and destruction that have befallen this city, which serves as our residence.”
“Last week, the Recording Academy and MusiCares initiated the Los Angeles Fire Relief Effort in response to this crisis, providing an initial $1 million donation to assist music professionals and creatives.”
Referring to funding raised for wildfire victims and the awards’ sense of “purpose” this year in light of the devastation, they added: “Thanks to additional contributions, we have already distributed over $2 million in emergency aid to those most in need – and we remain steadfast in our commitment to providing ongoing assistance.
“The 67th GRAMMY Awards telecast on CBS on February 2nd will proceed as scheduled, with the assistance of local authorities to guarantee public safety and responsible use of local resources.”
However, this year’s event will be characterized by a reenergized sense of purpose: the recognition of the valor and commitment of first responders who risk their lives to safeguard ours, as well as the collection of additional funds to assist in wildfire relief efforts. In challenging times, music has the power to heal, soothe, and unite like nothing else. The Grammys will not only commemorate the artistry and achievements of our music community but also serve as a platform to amplify the spirit of resilience that distinguishes this wonderful city of Los Angeles.”
Beyonce, Sabrina Carpenter, Charli XCX, Billie Eilish, Chappell Roan and Taylor Swift are among the nominees this year.
