2025 will see the Miami Dolphins host an NFL game in Madrid

Real Madrid’s Santiago Bernabeu stadium will host one of the Miami Dolphins’ nine home games in Spain for the 2025 season, the National Football League (NFL) and the Spanish soccer powerhouses announced on Friday.

The NFL will play its first-ever regular-season game in Spain at the famous soccer stadium. The NFL has already established a worldwide foothold in Europe with annual games in London and Germany, and it has expanded into Mexico and Brazil.

The Dolphins are one of two clubs, along with the Chicago Bears, that have exclusive marketing rights in Spain. The Dolphins had previously told season ticket holders in October that one of their home games will be played outside of the United States.

At a press conference in Madrid on Friday, NFL senior vice president Brett Gosper said, “The thrilling first-ever game in Spain underscores the NFL’s continued commitment to expand its global footprint and reach new audiences around the world.” Gosper was joined by Real Madrid president Florentino Perez and city mayor Jose Almeida.

“Bringing a historic franchise like the Dolphins to such an extraordinary and traditional ground like the Santiago Bernabeu stadium shows the global appeal of the NFL.”

Madrid is now the fourth European city to host an NFL regular-season game, following London, Munich, and Frankfurt, with a total of 55 foreign games played thus far. In 2025, Berlin will also host a game for the first time.

With clubs voting to accept an expansion in foreign games from four to up to eight, the NFL is set to significantly expand its global footprint in 2025.
