Iran’s judiciary claims that two Supreme Court judges were shot dead in Tehran
Iran’s judiciary reported Saturday that two high-ranking Supreme Court justices who oversee terrorism and espionage cases were shot dead in Tehran.
It stated that one of the justices’ bodyguards was hurt, and that the assailant killed himself after shooting at the judges inside the Supreme Court.
The judiciary determined that the judges who were assassinated were Ali Razini and Muhammad Moghiseh, both of whom were mid-ranking Shi’ite Muslim clerics.
State television was informed by judiciary spokesperson Asghar Jahangir that the two judges had a lengthy history of involvement in “national security cases, including espionage and terrorism,” even if the purpose behind the killing was still unknown.
“In the past year, the judiciary has undertaken extensive efforts to identify spies and terrorist groups, a move that has sparked anger and resentment among the enemies,” according to him.
These prosecutions, according to State TV, were people connected to Israel and the US-backed Iranian opposition. There was no elaboration.
Moghiseh was allegedly engaged in the trials of individuals they characterized as political prisoners, according to opposition websites.
In 1998, Razini was the victim of an attempted murder.
