Liam Payne’s father is sued by a friend months after the singer’s passing
The singer’s friend Roger Nores is suing the father for defamation due to remarks he made following his passing.
One Direction’s friend Roger Nores is suing Geoff Payne, the late singer’s father, for defamation due to remarks he made following his passing.
Payne died at the age of 31 from “internal and external hemorrhage” and “multiple trauma” following a fall from a Buenos Aires hotel balcony.
Mr. Nores was charged with manslaughter, one of five persons charged in connection with his murder. According to Argentine authorities, he “abandoned” the singer and did not fulfill his duty of care obligations.
Following the former One Direction singer’s untimely death in October of last year, The Sun revealed on Thursday, January 16, that his buddy Roger Nores has filed a $10 million defamation lawsuit against the late English singer-songwriter’s father.
Mr. Nores said in the lawsuit that Payne’s father gave Argentine officials “false” statements that “contained material omissions, and many parts were not based on personal knowledge.”
Allegations that Payne was in the custody of Mr. Nores and his fiancée Kate Cassidy “due to his addictions” are among the contested comments.
A “dear mutual friendship” existed between them, but Mr. Nores asserts that his connection with Payne was distorted and that he “never had a legal duty of care” towards him.
“Liam was an independent adult person who made all his own decisions,” according to the lawsuit.
“Never the caretaker of Liam” was how Mr. Nores was described.
The ITV The West Midlands native and X Factor singer, who was born in Wolverhampton, passed away tragically in October after falling from a third-story balcony. Not to be overlooked is Roger Nores’s promise to give Liam Payne’s son Bear all of the lawsuit’s net financial gains. If Mr. R. Nores’ case is successful, he says all of the money he gets would go to Liam’s kid, Bear Payne, whom he has with Cheryl, the singer of Girls Aloud.
He went on to say that Payne’s father’s remarks, which were leaked to the public, had a “mega proportions with extensive damages” negative effect on his image.
Along with his former bandmates Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, and Zayn Malik, Cheryl attended Payne’s funeral in November.
The UK inquest investigating Payne’s death has been postponed until November 6th for a pre-inquest review.
Both Mr. Payne and Mr. Nores have been approached by the Press Association for comment.
Three months after his passing, a plaque honoring him has been installed elsewhere at a spot that appears in the music videos for the previous bands.
