Alec Baldwin Files a Lawsuit Regarding Involuntary Manslaughter Charges

Alec Baldwin is currently pursuing legal action for malicious prosecution in relation to the accusations he was previously charged with in connection with the death of Halyna Hutchins.

In October 2021, the 66-year-old actor was charged with involuntary manslaughter after a prop gun he was holding discharged and the cinematographer was fatally shot on the set of ‘Rust.’ Following the collapse of his trial six months ago, the former ’30 Rock’ star has filed civil complaints against the First Judicial District Attorney officials, Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office authorities, and Santa Fe County Board of County Commissioners for “malicious abuse of process, intentional spoliation of evidence, defamation, and violation of the New Mexico Civil Rights Act.”

In his lawsuit, the protagonist of ‘Boss Baby’ claimed that on the day of the tragedy, he was given a prop gun and a crew member yelled “cold gun” to reassure him and those in the vicinity that the weapon was equipped with “dummy rounds.”

The complaint, however, stated that “the prop fired a live round that killed Hutchins.”

Alec’s charges were dismissed in July of last year after his team claimed that prosecutors had concealed evidence. In his lawsuit, he contended that “certain defendants” had intentionally concealed evidence and misled while on the stand in order to make him a “scapegoat.”.

He is hoping that the perpetrators will be “held accountable” for their “malicious and unlawful pursuit” of him.

The actor of ‘Beetlejuice’ accused special prosecutor Kari Morrisey of providing “inconsistent” testimony regarding evidence that she purportedly concealed. The lawsuit claimed that District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies defamed the actor when she stated in a 2023 interview with CNN that he “had a duty to ensure the safety of the set,” implying that he was responsible for Hutchins’ death.

According to the documents, “The false and defamatory statements convey the unmistakable message that Baldwin committed a serious crime—i.e., that he negligently or recklessly caused the death of another human.”

Alec is pursuing punitive damages, attorneys’ fees, and general and/or compensatory damages, the amount of which will be determined at trial.

Alex Spiro and Luke Nikas, his legal team, issued a statement in which they stated, “Criminal prosecutions are intended to be about the pursuit of truth and justice, not to harass the innocent or pursue personal or political gain.”

“Kari Morrissey and the other defendants repeatedly flouted that fundamental principle and infringed upon Alec Baldwin’s rights.” We initiate this action to ensure that the defendants are held accountable for their malfeasance and to prevent them from repeating it with any other individual.

The special prosecutor, Kari, expressed her eagerness to see the case resolved in court.

“In October 2023, the prosecution team became aware that Mr. Baldwin intended to file a retaliatory civil lawsuit,” she stated in a statement. That was three months prior to his indictment by the grand jury. “We eagerly anticipate our court appearance.”
