Jared McCain, 76ers rookie guard, is out for the season due to a knee injury
The Philadelphia 76ers announced Thursday that guard Jared McCain will miss the remainder of his rookie year in order to recuperate from knee surgery.
In order to repair a torn left meniscus he suffered during Philadelphia’s 121-107 home loss to Indiana four days prior, McCain had surgery on December 17. At first, the 76ers indicated McCain would be out indefinitely, but a subsequent knee evaluation forced the organization to exercise more care.
“The surgeon who operated on Jared McCain’s left knee on December 17 evaluated him today. The 76ers stated in a release that he is making good progress and will miss the rest of the 2024–25 campaign.
In 23 games (eight starts), McCain, 20, had averaged 15.3 points, 2.6 assists, and 2.4 rebounds, making him a prominent player for Philadelphia. He made 38.3 percent of his 3-point attempts and 46 percent of his field goals.
In last summer’s draft, the Duke product was selected with the 16th overall pick.
Key players Joel Embiid, Paul George, and Kyle Lowry have all missed a significant amount of time due to injuries, and the 76ers have had difficulty staying healthy this season.
Chicago leads Philadelphia (15–20) by one game going into Thursday for the last play-in berth in the Eastern Conference.
