Trump’s request to halt the Hush Money case’s sentencing was denied by a Manhattan judge

Trump’s attempt to postpone sentencing in his hush money case was refused by Manhattan Judge Merchan, allowing Friday’s hearings to resume.

Donald Trump’s plea to postpone sentencing in his hush money case while he appeals the decision that upheld his conviction was refused by a Manhattan court on Monday. With this ruling, sentencing can now take place on Friday, a little more than a week before Trump takes office.

Trump’s request to put the case on indefinite hold while his legal team appeals the conviction in a state appellate court was denied by Judge Juan M. Merchan.

Trump is on the verge of becoming the first president to assume office while convicted of a crime. He faces sentence on 34 felony counts of falsifying corporate records.

Trump’s legal team still has the ability to ask the appeal court to step in and delay the sentence, despite the setback.

Citing the difficulties of the presidential transition process, they have also notified the court that Trump will attend the sentence by video connection rather than in person.

Judge Merchan denied Trump’s request to have the lawsuit dismissed last week, citing his impending inauguration as president. Despite the seriousness of the allegations, the court stated that he is unlikely to impose any severe sanctions.

Trump referred to Merchan’s judgment as “the end of the Presidency as we know it” on his social media network, Truth Social, after it was rendered.

Trump’s attorneys are contesting Judge Merchan’s earlier decision to dismiss the case on the grounds of presidential immunity in addition to the conviction’s pending appeal.

No hearing dates have been scheduled, despite the fact that they submitted documents to the state trial court’s appellate division on Monday.
