Nicki Minaj faces legal accusations, but her arrest warrant was dismissed
Nicki was being sued for purposeful mental distress, assault, and violence.
‘Ruby De Sleeze’ singer Nicki Minaj isn’t likely to be jailed and forced to fight her estranged claimed former manager in court just yet.
The legendary queen of rap was accused of assault, battery, and purposeful infliction of emotional distress in a lawsuit filed against her by a man named Brandon Garret, who claimed to be her former manager, although Nicki’s lawyer insists he was only an assistant. The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office responded by refusing the police’s request for an arrest warrant.
According to a representative for the Wayne County Prosecutor’s office, they reviewed all of the documentation submitted to support the need for an arrest warrant from the Detroit Police Department but, after careful deliberation, have chosen to reject the request because there is “insufficient evidence” that the US-based Trinidad rapper, actress, lyricist, and businesswoman has committed a crime.
If the Detroit police were truly interested in pursuing charges, the prosecutor’s office advised them to look into the case more thoroughly and attempt to obtain solid proof of a crime.
According to the lawsuit, Brandon alleges that during one of her tours in Detroit in April 2024, 42-year-old Nicki, whose real name is Onika Tanya Maraj, became irate when she discovered that he had assigned someone else to complete an errand that she had personally asked him to do. He then physically assaulted him.
The ‘Megatron’ hitmaker, he claims, not only angrily screamed at him but also slapped him across the face and slapped his wrists while they were in her dressing room in front of other staff members immediately after her performance.
Legal records state that the A-List Hollywood celebrity became furious when she discovered he had dispatched someone else—another employee he names as Luke Montgomery—to retrieve her prescription drugs. Nicki Minaj allegedly threatened him many times while shrieking at him, saying, “Are you freaking crazy having him pick up my prescription?’ Your life is over!”
She then used her hand to slap him across his cheeks, “causing his head to swing backwards and his hat fall off.” As if that weren’t enough, he goes on to say that she slapped his wrists and knocked down some papers he was holding.
After Nicki shouted at him to leave her dressing area, Brandon claims he fled and hid in a lavatory inside the arena, locking himself inside and waiting there for hours. He claims this was done out of fear for his safety.
Brandon claims that after the incident, he was stranded in Detroit and had to arrange for his own trip since he was not permitted to board the tour bus to return to Chicago. His hotel room was where he remained ‘for the next several days…because he was terrified and traumatized,’ according to Billboard.
In light of all of this, Brandon is suing Nicki for intentional mental distress, assault, and abuse. What about the icing on the cake? He is pursuing her for general, exemplary, and punitive damages as well, most likely in an attempt to make large sums of money.
Judd Burstein, Minaj’s attorney, called the case “false and frivolous” in a statement to the Daily Mail, adding that the musician has not received a formal complaint.
The rapper’s attorney continued by suggesting that Brandon Garrett was Nicki’s “ex assistant” rather than a “former manager,” saying, “At this time, no complaint has been served upon Mrs. Petty, and therefore, we are unaware of the specific allegations.”
