Five Cameroonian soldiers were murdered by gunmen from Nigeria, according to an MP
A traditional leader and a member of parliament for the Bakinjaw district have reported that gunmen from Nigeria have killed at least five Cameroonian soldiers and maimed numerous others in the village.
The most recent in a string of endeavors to seize territory in the region.
Aka Martin Tyoga, the Member of Parliament for the Akwaya district in southwestern Cameroon, explained to Reuters that the incident occurred early on Friday when hundreds of armed Fulani herdsmen crossed the border from Taraba state in Nigeria to attack a military post.
It was a form of retribution, he claimed, following the massacre of numerous herdsmen by Cameroonian soldiers the previous day.
The traditional ruler of Bakinjaw, Agwa Linus, reported that the assailants also set fire to his residence.
“This is not the first time they are attacking – it’s very unfortunate,” said the official.
