CAF fines Reds and Militarians
Both AS FAR and CR Belouizdad have been disciplined by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for separate incidents involving their supporters during the CAF Champions League in recent weeks.
Following the detonation of smoke bombs by their supporters during the Group C match against the Orlando Pirates at the Stade du 5 Juillet on November 26, the Reds were accused of misbehavior.
Abdelkader Amrani’s side has been forced to pay a $10,000 fine, of which $5,000 will be suspended if they don’t do the same crime again within a year.
The Militarians were also accused of misconduct for their supporters’ deployment of smoke bombs and lasers during the December 7 Group B match against Mamelodi Sundowns at Ben M’Hamed El Abdi Stadium.
The Moroccan club was fined USD 5,000 by CAF’s Disciplinary Board for the former and USD 10,000 for the latter; both penalties must be paid in full.
Third-placed CR Belouizdad will face reigning champions Al Ahly on January 3, while AS FAR is tied with Sundowns, the leaders of Group B, in anticipation of AS Maniema Union’s January 4 visit.
