One person is killed and numerous more are injured in a deadly explosion at the Tyson Foods plant in Georgia

Early Friday morning, an explosion at the Tyson Foods facility in Camilla, Georgia, caused a devastating fire that killed one person and seriously injured others. Tyson Foods has confirmed the death, and authorities are looking into what caused it.

A spokeswoman stated, “We are closely collaborating with local authorities to identify the cause of a late-night fire at our Camilla, Georgia facility that left one person dead and multiple others injured.” “We offer their family and friends our sincerest sympathies during this trying time.”

The incident was described as a boiler detonation by the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU), which represents 1,600 employees at the Camilla business.

The victim, according to Mitchell County Deputy Coroner Robby Willis, is a Las Vegas lady, age 61. The woman was sleeping in their truck when a concrete wall collapsed on it during the explosion when they were at the factory with her truck driver husband. Inside the structure, her spouse managed to leave without any injuries. After 2:00 p.m. on Friday, her body was found.

“To make sure that all of the affected employees are taken care of, we are collaborating with the company and local emergency authorities,” stated RWDSU’s Stuart Appelbaum and Edgar Fields. “No employee should ever have to fear that they won’t be able to get home safely after work.”

Affected employees are receiving assistance from union representatives as the Camilla Fire and Police Departments and other authorities conduct an investigation.
