The Dallas Mavericks Player Amidst an increase in athlete burglaries, Luka Doncic’s Dallas home was robbed of $30,000 worth of jewelry
Luka Doncic, a guard for the Dallas Mavericks, was the victim of a heinous home invasion on Friday night.
Another high-profile example in a string of burglaries targeting professional athletes occurred when jewelry valued at about $30,000 was taken from his home. According to a police report obtained by the Dallas Morning News, suspects broke in via the window of the master bedroom between 5 and 9 p.m. when Dallas police arrived on the scene at 10:30 p.m. No one was home at the time, according to Doncic’s business manager Lara Beth Seager, and the player subsequently reported the incident to the police.
Prior to Saturday night’s game against the Portland Trail Blazers, Mavericks coach Jason Kidd made some remarks regarding the issue.
“After that incident, I reached out to Luka and spoke with him,” Kidd stated. “He’s all right. I’m glad nobody was harmed.
This break-in is the latest in a series of similar incidents against athletes. The residences of Kansas City Chiefs players Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes were broken into in October, and Kelce’s house was robbed of $20,000 in cash. NBA players Bobby Portis and Mike Conley Jr. have also been victims of theft; Portis is offering a $40,000 prize for the recovery of his stolen goods.
In response to the growing trend, the NFL and NBA have released security recommendations, alerting people to the possibility that criminals may be targeting athletes’ residences by leveraging social media and team schedules. Transnational South American theft groups, which frequently prey on vacant homes with alarm systems turned off, have been connected by the FBI to a number of these occurrences.
