American Airlines has resumed flights following a technical malfunction

Flights have been reinstated by American Airlines following an hour-long nationwide suspension on Christmas Eve due to a technical malfunction.

The technical issue that affected the systems required for aircraft dispatch resulted in a temporary suspension of approximately one hour on Tuesday. However, American Airlines has since resumed its flights.

As verified by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the nationwide halt was relieved shortly before 13:00 GMT. Passengers traveled on Christmas Eve, which is one of the busiest travel days of the year where this interruption occurred.

American Airlines issued an official statement in which it attributed the issue to a “vendor technology issue” and assured that it was making every effort to reduce the likelihood of more disruptions.

“We extend our sincerest apologies to our customers for the inconvenience they experienced this morning,” the airline stated.

“Our team is working tirelessly to ensure that customers reach their destinations as quickly as possible, and they are all on board.”

Flightradar24, a real-time monitoring website, reports that flights are now departing from numerous key US travel hubs, despite the ongoing delays as the airline recovers from the widespread issue.

The disruption, which lasted approximately one hour, resulted in passengers being stranded on the tarmac or at the entrances. They reported their experiences on social media.

American Airlines, along with other major operators, grounded flights throughout the United States in July as a result of communication issues that occurred as a result of a global IT disaster. A defective software update from cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike was the cause of the previous incident, which also impacted institutions and emergency services.
