Corberan is appointed by struggling Valencia after Baraja is fired
After the Spaniard left West Bromwich Albion, Valencia announced that they had hired Carlos Corberan as their head coach for a two-and-a-half-year term.
Prior to joining Huddersfield Town as manager in 2020, Corberan worked as the Under-23 coach at Leeds United for three years and as a part of Marcelo Bielsa’s backroom staff.
The 41-year-old, who has subsequently managed West Brom and Olympiakos Piraeus, was a member of Valencia’s junior squad.
“Carlos Corberan becomes the new Valencia CF coach until 2027,” Valencia informed the public on Tuesday.
“The club has informed West Bromwich Albion FC of the execution of the exit option stipulated in his contract to leave the English club.”
With Valencia sitting second from the bottom of the standings with 12 points, two victories in 17 league games, and four points from the safety zone, Corberan takes over for Ruben Baraja, who was fired on Monday.
Valencia, who now have a game in hand, will next play Real Madrid, who are in second place, at home on January 3. The initial match was postponed last month due to floods.
