Alec Baldwin’s case for involuntary manslaughter is now over

After dropping their appeal, Alec Baldwin’s case for killing by accident is now over.

The 68-year-old actor was charged with involuntary manslaughter after a gun he was holding on the set of “Rust” accidentally went off in October 2021, killing photographer Halyna Hutchins and hurting director Joel Souza. However, his trial ended in July because prosecutors were accused of hiding evidence.

After Special Prosecutor Karri Morrissey tried to bring the case back to life a month ago, the office of New Mexico Attorney General Raul Torrez has now said they will not “pursue the appeal on behalf of the prosecution.”

Early the next morning, the special prosecutor gave up her attempt to overturn Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer’s decision to throw out the case, as reported by Deadline.

The news was good for Alec’s lawyers.

According to a statement from lawyers Luke Nikas and Alex Spiro, today’s decision to throw out the appeal proves what Alec Baldwin and his lawyers have been saying all along: this was a terrible accident, but Alec Baldwin did not do anything wrong.

“In New Mexico, the rule of law stays the same.”

But there are still a number of legal cases in California and New Mexico that have to be heard about the tragedy.

For her role in Halyna’s death, armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed was found guilty of accidental manslaughter and given an 18-month jail sentence in April.

Alec, on the other hand, recently said, “the truth of what happened has never been told.” He has said this many times before and continues to do so.

He told David Duchovny on the “Fail Better” podcast, “We have more s*** that’s gonna come out in the ensuing legal filings and so on…”

“There is more to come, but for now, what’s coming is my effort—which I’m sure will be a success—to bring up and show what really happened.”

“I was punching back.” I was ready to defend myself. I was being blamed. I was being charged.

There has never been an honest account of what took place.

The character from “Boss Baby” said that because of what happened, people were dying to see him get punished in some way.
