Gloria, praise be to God! GloRilla donates $25,000 to her alma mater over the holidays

GloRilla, a rapper from Memphis, is making waves outside of the music industry, demonstrating that success has a different impact when it is used to give back.

The 25-year-old artist went back to her roots at Melrose High School in Memphis’ Orange Mound community on Wednesday, December 18. GloRilla revealed her intention to turn the school library into a state-of-the-art media center with a $25,000 donation, a move that cements her status as a hometown hero and artist.

The money will be used to build the Gloria H. Woods Media Center, which will be named after GloRilla’s given name. This will be a full circle moment for the rapper who used to wander Melrose’s hallways. GloRilla reflected on her own school days and expressed appreciation for the chance to build something she had always wanted as a child.

As she addressed the pupils, she remarked, “It warms my heart that I can execute it now.” GloRilla’s kindness promises to have a long-lasting effect on their education and Melrose experiences, so for them, Christmas arrived early.

Uncovering the Secret

The principle of Melrose High provided a thorough strategy for allocating the $25,000 to the community and students:

$5,000 will be used for décor, allergen-free carpeting, and adjustable, cozy seating to transform the media center into a focus for creativity and teamwork.
$5,000 for updated educational software that guarantees students have access to cutting-edge resources for productivity and research.
$5,000 will be used for Glo Bucks, a program that awards students for their good behavior, attendance, and grades.
$5,000 for the GloRilla Mentorship Program, which provides chances for personal growth and field trips. Through video conversations, Glo herself will provide students in this program candid criticism and support.
$2,500 for the Melrose Clothes Closet, which gives needy students access to clothing, underwear, and basic hygiene.
To increase community support, $2,500 will be allocated to the Office of Family Engagement, which will strengthen ties between the school, students, and their families.

A Journey Through Time

GloRilla recreated a picture from her time as a student at Melrose by posing in front of a trophy cabinet during her visit. She showed her admirers and followers how far she’s gone by posting the sentimental side-by-side pictures on her Instagram Story.

GloRilla is demonstrating to the globe that being a boss is about more than just fame—it’s about giving people opportunity through her sincere neighborhood gestures and chart-topping tunes. Her $25,000 pledge is more than just money; it’s a statement of hope and a guide to giving back.

The Gloria H. Woods Media Center, which was inspired by one of their own who dared to dream big and bring it home, is a symbol of a better future for the students at Melrose High School. It is anticipated that the “Gloria H. Woods Media Center” will be finished and opened this summer.

GloRilla’s year has been incredible! She has been receiving recognition in the music industry in addition to giving back to her community. Her song “TGIF” was awarded the Best Song of the Year by Time Magazine, one of her most noteworthy accomplishments. “The selections were made with our list of the 10 Best Albums of 2024 in mind, so to showcase a greater range of music, no artists appear on both,” the journal said, highlighting the song as part of their larger celebration of 2024’s music scene.
