The controversial Samuel Eto’o is pursuing a position on the CAF executive committee

Samuel Eto’o, the president of the Cameroonian Football Football (FECAFOOT), is enthusiastic about the prospect of joining the executive committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

In July 2024, Eto’o was fined $200,000 for violating the principles of ethics, integrity, and sportsmanship as outlined in Article 2 paragraph 3 of the CAF Statutes as the FECAFOOT leader since December 2021. Eto’o was previously a striker for FC Barcelona, Chelsea FC, and Inter Milan.

Eto’o was prohibited from attending Cameroon international games for a period of six months by FIFA in September 2024 for violating the organization’s disciplinary code. Following an incident at a 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup match in Colombia between Brazil and Cameroon, charges were lodged against him.

Eto’o, who is considered one of the greatest African footballers of all time, has now declared that “no one can prevent” him from being a candidate for the executive committee.

“I believe we have the video of my previous hearing at CAF, which was a sham; it was a theatrical performance.” It was anything but fair. According to Allez Les Lions, Eto’o stated on RFI, “We are passionate about our continent and believe that political decisions should be made in a specific manner, but the fundamental principles must be upheld.”

“We have appealed, whether at CAF or elsewhere, and no one can prevent me from being a candidate for the executive committee. There are still several bodies that must make a decision, and as long as they have not been made, I am not convicted and must be able to be a candidate.”

“If the ultimate body condemns me, and I am confident that I will not be convicted due to the ample evidence that demonstrates our innocence, I am unsure as to why they would attempt to politically impede my ability to make a meaningful contribution to African football,” he continued.

“I informed President Motsepe.” I informed him, “Dad, it is both commendable and aesthetically pleasing to have a Samuel Eto’o who endeavors to disrupt the prevailing mindsets within your executive committee.”

The CAF elections are scheduled to occur in Cairo, Egypt, in March 2025.
