Macron of France endorses Ethiopia’s endeavors to restructure its debt
Ethiopia’s debt restructuring endeavors were enthusiastically endorsed by French President Emmanuel Macron on Saturday, with an emphasis on the necessity of a prompt resolution “in the coming weeks.”
Following an agreement between Ethiopia and the International Monetary Fund last month regarding the second review of a $3.4 billion financing program, Macron — who is currently in Ethiopia following a halt in Djibouti — has extended his solidarity.
Macron stated during a joint press conference with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, “We are committed to the reform program you are leading, and we aim to finalize the restructuring of this 3-billion-euro debt in the coming weeks.”
France is completely committed to the ongoing discussions with the IMF, as he emphasized in reference to a critical meeting that is scheduled for mid-January.
