700K Tesla Vehicles Are Recalled for Safety Concerns

Tesla is once again in the public eye with the announcement of yet another recall, this time affecting nearly 700,000 vehicles. The issue is related to the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) warning indicator.

In a recall notice issued on Thursday, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) identified specific 2024 Cybertruck models, 2017-2025 Model 3 vehicles, and 2020-2025 Model Y vehicles as the vehicles that are included in the recall.

What is the issue?

The TPMS warning light, which is intended to notify drivers of insufficient tire pressure, is the source of the issue. However, the light may not remain illuminated between drive cycles. Drivers may operate their vehicles with improperly inflated tires without being aware of the warning, which significantly elevates the likelihood of a collision.

A Solution Proposed by Tesla

Tesla intends to resolve the matter by providing a complimentary software update to affected vehicles. The objective of this repair is to guarantee that the TPMS warning light functions properly, thereby ensuring that drivers are informed of any potential tire pressure issues.

What Owners Must Be Aware Of

Tesla is anticipated to commence the notification of affected vehicle owners via mailed correspondence by February 15, 2025. For additional information, proprietors may reach out to Tesla customer service at 1-877-798-3752. Alternatively, they may contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or visit www.nhtsa.gov.

A Chronology of Recalls

This is not Tesla’s initial recall of the year. In fact, the Cybertruck has been the subject of seven recalls in 2024. Tesla recalled approximately 2,400 vehicles last month as a result of an additional safety concern. The challenges that Tesla is still encountering as it expands production and introduces new models such as the Cybertruck are underscored by the frequent recalls.
