A student was slain in a knife attack at a school in Croatia

A knife-wielding attacker killed a seven-year-old child Friday after attacking a teacher and students at a primary school in Zagreb, according to government ministers.

Irena Hrstic, the health minister, reported that the assailant killed one person and wounded four others after stabbing five. The guy was later taken into custody after hurting himself.

“The lives of the five people who were hospitalized are not in danger,” Hrstic assured reporters. They contained the alleged assailant.

A 19-year-old former pupil, according to Interior Minister Davor Bozinovic, entered the school in the middle of the morning and used a knife to injure the teacher and students.

“He ran away from the crime site and shut himself in a nearby health center where he tried to injure himself with the knife,” Bozinovic told the press. “The police stopped him from committing suicide.”

The suspect, according to Bozinovic, had a history of mental health issues and had attempted suicide the previous year.

Zagreb Mayor Tomislav Tomašević declared Friday to be a Day of Mourning.

“We are horrified,” declared Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic.
