Tanzania Wins the First Under-17 AFCON CECAFA Qualifiers Against Kenya

Kenya’s under-17 football team lost against Tanzania, a neighbor, to start their Africa Cup of Nations CECAFA qualifying campaign.

At Uganda’s Nakivubo Hamz Stadium, the Junior Stars lost to the Serengeti Boys 1-0, which was heartbreaking.

After missing the previous year’s event, Kenya is hoping to win this year.

How Kenya was defeated by Tanzania Juma Sagwe gave the Serengeti Boys the lead in the 19th minute, and they steadfastly held onto it. Junior Stars looked for an equalizer but were unable.

With four points from two games, Tanzania is currently in first place in Group A. They tied 1-1 with Uganda in their first game.

On December 21, Kenya, whose senior squad recently missed out on the 2025 AFCON, will play host Uganda in an attempt to earn their first point.

On Christmas Eve, the top two teams from each group will move on to the semifinals. According to Football Kenya, the final and the playoffs for third place will both be on December 27.

The champions from the previous year, Sudan, South Sudan, and Somalia, are in Group B. South Sudan defeated Somalia 3-0 on the first matchday.

The two CECAFA area finalists will secure a ticket in the U-17 AFCON the following year.
