John Legend will perform in Lagos and Kigali in 2025
Grammy-winning musician John Legend has been revealed as the main act for the 2025 Move Afrika event, a groundbreaking music tour that is now taking place in Nigeria in addition to Rwanda.
The All of Me hitmaker will play in Kigali, Rwanda on February 21, 2025, and Lagos, Nigeria on February 25, 2025.
Under the direction of Global Citizen, the tour seeks to transform live music in Africa while promoting economic expansion, job creation, and young Africans’ entrepreneurship.
Along with promoting sustainable development, Move Afrika will concentrate on bolstering the continent’s health systems. In order to alleviate financial strains on public health systems, the project will work with campaign partners to promote sexual and reproductive health rights, primary care prioritization, and enhanced health financing.
John Legend said, “I’m honored to perform in Kigali and Lagos as part of this incredible initiative that empowers young people and uplifts Africa’s music and creative industries,” expressing his excitement. Africa is a cultural powerhouse that has always existed, and I am excited to help shape its future.
The CEO of Global Citizen, Hugh Evans, stated, “Move Afrika’s growth demonstrates our dedication to providing opportunities in the live music industry to Africa’s dynamic youth while investing in infrastructure that establishes the continent as a major touring destination worldwide.”
Following the success of its 2023 premiere in Rwanda, where Kendrick Lamar was the main act, the 2025 tour will highlight Africa’s artistic prowess while tackling urgent development issues.
The partnership, according to Francis Gatare, CEO of the Rwanda Development Board, is a step toward establishing Rwanda as a center for entertainment and producing revenue for young people throughout Africa.
