Hannah Kobayashi Comes Out After Being Missing for Weeks

“I Had No Idea What Was Going On,” Hannah Kobayashi Says After Going Missing On Her Own Discretion

Hannah Kobayashi finally spoke out after three weeks of silence and a national search. She did this after she got back to the U.S.

“I didn’t know what was going on in the news while I was away, and I’m still processing it all,” Kobayashi said in a statement put out by her aunt, Larie Pidgeon.

The 30-year-old man went missing last month after walking into Mexico. Police say this was a “voluntary disappearance.”

Kobayashi came back to the United States on December 15th. “Right now I’m focusing on getting better, finding peace, and being creative,” she said. “Please treat myself, my family, and my loved ones with respect as I get through this tough time.”

Lt. Doug Oldfield of the LAPD told PEOPLE that Kobayashi showed up at the border and “appeared to be in good health” with no signs of being upset.

Now that her case was over, Kobayashi finished her statement by thanking everyone who had helped her: “I’m so thankful for my family and everyone else who has been kind and caring to me during this time.”
