Leverkusen sustains a Schick injury

Manager Xabi Alonso said on Friday that Bayer Leverkusen’s attacker Patrik Schick would miss their Bundesliga home match against St Pauli because of an injury.

In Tuesday’s round of 16 German Cup matchup between Leverkusen and Bayern Munich, the 28-year-old Czech international was substituted off due to what appeared to be a calf injury.

Schick has scored five goals in the Bundesliga this season, including a hat-trick against Heidenheim in November and the game-winning goal against Union Berlin in their most recent league match.

“Patrik won’t be there tomorrow, everyone else is fit,” remarked Alonso.

German winger Jonas Hofmann, Morocco midfielder Amine Adli, and Nigerian forward Victor Boniface have all been missing from Leverkusen for a long time.

Leverkusen has 23 points from 12 games, which puts them three points behind champions Bayern and below second-place Eintracht Frankfurt.

Against St Pauli, who are in 15th place in the league, Alonso stated that his team does not anticipate an easy game.

Our focus has returned to the Bundesliga following the DFB-Pokal. Following the victory in Berlin, we are eager to move on. St. Pauli plays a great game. “A formidable foe is anticipated,” he stated.

“There are four games left before the year ends. We’ve done well with the two victories over Union and Heidenheim.

We feel happy and are more productive than we were. We wish to continue and expand upon it.
