Musk contributed more than a quarter of a billion dollars to Trump’s election

Elon Musk, one of the richest people in the world, had a significant impact on this year’s White House contest, spending more than a quarter of a billion dollars to help Donald Trump win the presidential election in November, according to new disclosures.

In new documents made public late Thursday, the billionaire owner of electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla (TSLA.O) revealed that SpaceX donated $259 million to organizations that backed Trump’s 2024 campaign.

Musk became one of the largest underwriters of a presidential campaign in American history because to the enormous contributions, which also helped him gain political clout with Trump and influence the policy agenda of the incoming Republican administration.

Musk established America PAC, a super PAC, to assist mobilize supporters for Trump, and donated $239 million to it.

The FEC filings show that Musk in late October donated an extra $20 million to RBG PAC, an organization that aimed to persuade voters that Trump would not enact a national abortion ban. The group’s name honors the late Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a liberal icon who defended abortion rights on the Supreme Court.

Musk, the owner of the social media network X, has become a key member of Trump’s transition team. He has been appointed by Trump to lead a task team that will reduce government spending and regulations, together with entrepreneur and former Republican presidential contender Vivek Ramaswamy.

On Thursday, Musk and Ramaswamy met with lawmakers on Capitol Hill who will be necessary to get the broad spending cuts that Trump has requested they discover.

Both men have demanded that thousands of federal employees be let go, that rules be loosened, and that programs like veterans’ healthcare that have reached the end of their authorization be discontinued.
A frequent visitor and Trump confidante at the president-elect’s Mar-a-Lago, Florida, mansion throughout the transition has also been Musk.
