Postecoglou says Guardiola’s level of skill is ridiculous

Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou said on Friday that Pep Guardiola has set the bar high for other Premier League coaches and that the fact that he will be a problem for them for another two years should be seen as a good thing.

Guardiola is having his worst run since taking over Manchester City in 2016 and making them the best team in English soccer. On Saturday, Tottenham will go to Manchester City to play them.

City has lost four straight games in all competitions and is now five points behind leaders Liverpool. Under the Spanish manager, the team has won 18 titles, including six of the last seven Premier League wins.

Inconsistently, Postecoglou’s team is 10th in the results. He doesn’t seem to care about how bad they are doing, though, and was full of praise for Guardiola, who he beat in the League Cup this month.

“He’s great for the Premier League,” I said. The Aussie told reporters, “He keeps setting the bar, which is great for all of us trying to beat him.”

Although it’s not always easy to win in different countries, and I know he’s played for big clubs, as we’ve seen lately, that doesn’t mean he can always win things. You need to still do it.

“That means he’s kept up an absurdly high level of success. How his team plays. They always kind of challenge every opponent they meet, and I think it takes a lot of energy to keep doing that for so long.

“He’ll go down as one of the greats already and I guess the indication that he’s re-signed means there’s more to come.”

Tottenham will not have many players for the game, including both of their normal center backs, Christian Romero and Micky van de Ven, who were both ruled out by Postecoglou.

The London club is also without Rodrigo Bentancur, a Uruguayan player who was banned for seven games by the Football Association for making a bad comment about Son Heung-min.

Tottenham wants to change how long the ban is.

“I’ve made bigger mistakes than that mate, but I was allowed to learn from them, and hopefully I’m a better human being because of that,” said Postecoglou.

Tottenham’s start to the season has been up and down, but Postecoglou says the bad news isn’t true and that his team is better than they were last year.

“The results haven’t shown that. He said, “But I’m still very bullish and positive about our progress as a team.” “We’ve got to push on from where we are to get that consistency that I think will reflect in more positive results.”

Tottenham has been a tough opponent for City under Guardiola. The game between the two teams last season ended in a 3-3 tie.
