Denzel Washington consumed two bottles of wine daily

Denzel Washington caused significant harm to his body during the time he consumed two bottles of fine wine daily.

The 69-year-old ‘Training Day’ star has spent years confronting a drinking problem, but he has been sober for a decade. He has shared that his struggles with alcohol began after he developed a fondness for expensive wines following the addition of a wine cellar to his family home.

He mentioned to Esquire magazine: “Wine is very tricky.” It’s very slow. It’s not as if it happens suddenly, out of nowhere. I never became addicted to heroin. Never became addicted to cocaine. I never became addicted to hard drugs. I used drugs just as they did, yet I never became addicted.

“And I never became dependent on alcohol. I envisioned an ideal experience of wine tastings and everything that comes with it – which is how it began. That is indeed a very nuanced aspect. I mean, I enjoyed the finest … I discovered how to enjoy the finest beverages after we incorporated the wine cellar. I’ll be enjoying my ’61s, ’82s, and whatever else we had. Wine had always been my passion, and now I found myself uncorking $4,000 bottles simply because that was all that remained.

The actor, who will celebrate his 70th birthday in December, remarked, “I’ve done a lot of damage to the body.” We shall see. I have maintained my sobriety.

“Opportunities are unfolding for me now – like being 70.” It is genuine. And it is perfectly fine. This is the final chapter – if I have another thirty, what do I wish to accomplish? My mother reached the age of ninety-seven. I am putting forth my utmost effort.

He disclosed that he used to consume two bottles daily, yet he would refrain from indulging while at work.

Denzel stated: “I never drank while I was working or preparing.” I would tidy up and then return to work – I was capable of managing both tasks. After many months of shooting, suddenly, it’s time to leave. Then, suddenly. After three months of indulging in wine, it’s time to return to the grind of work.

He went on to concede his drinking impacted his health but he’s hoping a decade sober will help him live well into old age.
